For us here in the UK, this year Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 19th March so there are just a few weeks left to find the perfect gift for those special, strong and supportive women in our lives. Of course it is lovely to gift the traditional flowers and chocolates; but to give a totally unique and one-of-a-kind gift is super special and can be very affordable if you shop vintage.
I have done all the hard work for you this week and been through our current collection to find the very best ideas for our 2023 Mother’s Day Vintage Gift Guide. All items are in stock as this blog post goes live but as each one is unique, be sure to grab your favourite before someone else does!
1. Vintage Royal Doulton Olivia Bone China Atomiser Perfume Bottle £32
Beautiful and collectable piece from Royal Doulton, made in 1993 and named 'Olivia'. Bone china perfume bottle with pretty floral design and traditional fabric covered atomiser in pearly cream. Measures approx 4" x 3". In very good vintage condition. Unscrews to add your choice of perfume or body mist.
2. 1960s Vintage Silver Accordion Gate Cocktail Bag £30
This is such a cool vintage bag from the 60s with a nod to the flapper style of the 20s. Made in Hong Kong by Golden Name, this pouch style bag is complete with a round metal accordian gate closure. Cream fabric with silver beading and lovely silver sparkling shapes. Finished with a silver metal chain carry strap. Measures approx 6.5" x 6" with a 6" strap drop. In very good vintage condition.
3. Vintage Capstan 1953 Queen Elizabeth Coronation Tin with ER Soaps £25
We love this commemorative tin made by Capstan Cigarettes for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Blue enamelled tin with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II set in a stylised frame of leaves and flanked by the Royal Cypher and crowns. The sides have the leaves and crowns and 'Coronation Souvenir 1953'. The lid interior has the company name and 'Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1953' in an elegant script. Capstan Cigarettes by W D & H O Wills of Bristol. This tin houses 4 ER soaps that are unused and still smell lovely. Measures approx 6.5" x 4.5" x 1.5". There is a lot of age to the tin but it is still usable and in good vintage condition.
4. 1960s Vintage Red Leather Driving Gloves £38
Luxurious vintage ladies driving gloves in sumptuous red leather with bound keyhole uppers. Very detailed stitching and texture including punched holes to back and front. Each finger has inserts and top stitching. Measurements when laid flat are approximately 3.5" wide and 8.5" at longest point. Approx size medium. In very good vintage condition.
5. Mid Century Vintage Japanese Novelty Print Kimono One Size £90
This is a truly stunning original Japanese kimono from the 1950s/1960s. White rayon/silk with a beautiful novelty print of Japanese mountains and buildings in rich greens. Traditional style complete with tie belt in same fabric. Can be worn in all manner of ways both indoors and outdoors, as well as being used for wall decoration. In very good vintage condition.
6. 1950s Vintage Diamante Bib Necklace £24
Super glamorous vintage necklace in a bib style with rows and rows of sparkling diamantes/rhinestones and silver-tone metal. Adjustable length with simple lobster clasp fastener. The chain measures from 13" - 25" and the diamanté piece is approx 1.5" wide. In very good vintage condition.
7. Vintage Aquascutum Equestrian Checked Scarf £65
Stylish long silky rectangular scarf from luxe designer and official Royal supplier Aquascutum. Navy blue and brown check with navy border and equestrian style print around the border. Printed with Aquascutum London on bottom corner. Measures approx 58" x 10". Light and silky fabric. In very good vintage condition.
8. 1950s Vintage Golden Heart Shaped Compact £35
This is such an usual and beautiful vintage compact in a cute heart shape. Goldtone metal opens to reveal a mirror and two inner comparments including original fabric applicator. Smaller heart on front, engraved with the letter K. Would make a wonderful gift. Measures approx 3" across at widest point. The clasp is very stiff and there are some marks as shown, but generally in good vintage condition.
9. Kitsch Vintage Cream Teddy Bear Novelty Teapot £26
Cute and collectable vintage teapot in the shape of a teddy bear. This handsome bear is cream with black highlights including his bow tie and little mug.Glassy finish with some slight crackling as the photos show. This adds character and age and isn't detrimental. Measures approx 9" x 8" at widest points. In good vintage condition.
10. Vintage Sparkling Gecko Brooch £16
We love a novelty animal brooch, and this is just stunning. Mixed metallics with hints of both gold and silver, fully encrusted with tiny clear sparkling diamantes. Rollover catch. Measures just under 3" long. In very good vintage condition.
