Despite the last pop of warm and sunny weather, there is no doubt that autumn is well and truly upon us. Leaves are beginning to fall and there's that fresher feel to the morning air. It's my favourite season so I am more than ready for the auburn palettes, pumpkin spice and cosy nights to draw in. But in retail, autumn also means we start preparing for the C word - yes, Christmas! But don't worry, I promise I'm not going to mention too much more about that, just tell you that we are starting to think about gifting and boy do we have some great ideas already!
So for the super organised among us, or for those who have autumn birthdays to buy for - I simply had to draw up my first Vintage Gift Guide of the season. You may also simply want to gift yourself and I am all for that! So grab yourself a pumpkin spiced latte (I'm not suggesting the mulled wine yet ha) cosy up on the sofa and let's dive into some amazing vintage gift ideas...
VINTAGE HANDBAGS
There simply cannot be a Vintage Gift Guide without some glorious vintage handbags. From a boxy 1950s handbag to a boho 1970s pouch bag or maybe even a cool 1980s clutch bag - here at My Vintage we really do have it all. Here are a few of my current favourites that are bound to deliver high on the brownie point-o-meter.
Original 1950s vintage handbag in that classic boxy shape. Rich taupe leather in a mock croc effect with traditional hinged opening and two carry handles. Small zipped pocket inside and fully lined. Measures approx 11" x 7" x 4". Has been used but still in very good vintage condition.
Super cool vintage shoulder bag from the iconic and collectable Jane Shilton. Genuine leather in a rich brown with a faux snake effect. Long skinny shoulder strap is removable and the bag closes with a golden hinged clip. Bag measures approx 9.5" x 7" with a strap drop of approx 20". In very good vintage condition.
Cool retro flight bag from the 1970s, from the Jetsave airline. Navy blue and red with plastic nylon front and back and nylon sides and shoulder strap. Full metal zip (the end of the zipper has broken off) One side has a pouch pocket. Measures approx 15" x 11" x 4.5" and full strap length approx 42" (can be adjusted to make this shorter) Well used but still in good vintage condition.
This is such a stunning vintage Empire Made evening bag/purse from the 1960s. Pale gold satin pouch with beautiful gold beading and beaded starburst design. Gold snap clasp closure with gold snake chain handle. Measures approx 8" x 6" with 6" strap drop. A few missing beads but not very noticeable and generally in very good vintage condition.
VINTAGE BEAUTY
We have some amazing vintage beauty and vintage vanity pieces in at the moment, from classic vintage vanity and dressing table sets to more unusual vintage deadstock perfume and toiletry gift sets. What could make a better gift for a vintage lover or collector that something unused and boxed from decades ago.
Fabulous and collectable toiletries set from 1960s Avon. Super pretty pastel blue coloured packaging, comprising a tin of perfumed talc and a heart shaped soap. An original vintage gift that is unused. Outer box measures approx 8.5" x 3.25". Box has stains as per the photos but still a great collectable piece.
This is a beautiful vintage dressing table set comprising a handheld mirror, brush and comb. Silver-toned with stunning aqua/turquoise backing. This is lifting a little from the mirror, just degradation of the glue over the years, can be glued back if required. Presented in original brown skin effect box and looks unused. Box measures approx 12.5" x 7" brush 9" long mirror 11" long comb 6.5" long. In good vintage condition.
Cute little vintage gift set comprising a small bottle of Bouquet Lentheric perfume and two wrapped soaps. Box with folding lid and Tweed appliqué design. Still in original outer box with retro Tweed design. Measures approx 6.75" x 3.75". In very good vintage condition.
VINTAGE SCARVES
A vintage scarf is always a wonderful gift as it is such a versatile piece. The can be worn around the neck in so many different ways but also in the hair or attached to a coat or handbag. Vintage scarves can also be used in the home for all manor of display and practical purposes. They really are a top choice!
Made in Italy for St Michael, this beautiful vintage scarf in a glossy satin has a striking golden brown and orange pattern print. Measures approx 28” x 28”. In excellent vintage condition.
Classic vintage square silk scarf from the iconic Christian Dior. This timeless scarf is in navy with a deep pink trim and small CD print all over. Made from luxurious butter soft silk. Measures approx 25” x 25”. In excellent vintage condition.
Pretty caramel brown scarf with scarf with large flower, stripes and zig zag pattern all in red blue and white. Measures approx 30” x 30”. In very good vintage condition.
Beautiful autumnal scarf from Jacqmar in the classic square style. Cream with an autumnal reed/leaf print in hues of brown and orange. Made from silk. Jacqmar is marked at the two opposite corners. Measures approx 29” x 29”. In very good vintage condition.
VINTAGE JEWELLERY
A piece of vintage jewellery is such a special and unique gift. Most of the vintage jewellery we have is costume and as such it is very affordable but will still be worn and treasured for years to come. It was hard to only choose a few pieces as there are so many I love, but you can find more here in our Vintage Jewellery department too!
Beautiful and intricate vintage necklace with a myriad of coloured beads in pale pink, yellow, red, blue, lilac and clear. The pretty coloured beads are spaced out with pewter toned metal pieces to create the overall look. Strong magnetic closure to make it simple to take on and off. Measures approx 17.5" long. In very good vintage condition.
Vintage Mother of Pearl Cluster Brooch. Stunning brooch with a cluster of shimmering mother of pearl pieces. This interesting and pretty brooch measures approx 2"" wide. Rollover catch. In very good vintage condition.
This impressive vintage bracelet is stamped ART, made by mid century New York jewellery Mode-Art. Gold tone with beautiful faux seed pearl encrusted links. Complete with safety chain. Measures approx 7” long. In very good vintage condition.
Stunning purple toned wedding cake beaded necklace and clip on earring set in Venetian glass from the 1930s. Lamp wound fastener to the 18.5" necklace and matching earrings with brasstone clips. Both pieces are in very good vintage condition and would make a wonderful gift or collectors piece.
So there we have a comprehensive gift guide for the autumn/fall season, packed with some absolutely beautiful vintage gems. Anyone who receives any of these as gifts is one very lucky individual indeed!
