As life is starting to feel a little more normal for us and the world is slowly opening up a little more, the summer months ahead seem a bit more hopeful. One of the things we have all missed out on is a holiday and there has never been a better time to start planning a staycation! Whether it's camping, glamping, finding a cute boutique B&B or renting a cosy cottage - a little break in the UK is a great way to enjoy a break this summer. Not only does it eliminate the worries and risks of venturing abroad, but taking a holiday in the UK is a great way to help our economy and support many of the areas of tourism, retail and hospitality that have suffered greatly over the pandemic.
With that in mind, I have gathered together some fantastic vintage staycation essentials that will add a little retro charm and vintage joy to your mini-break plans in 2021 and for many years to come.
VINTAGE VANITY CASE
If you are just going away for one or two nights, a small vintage suitcase or vintage vanity case is perfect for your essential bits and bobs, and we have some fantastic ones in stock at the moment, let's take a look at some of my current favourites...
Hard-shell faux leather vanity case in bright vivid red with brass tone lock closure. There is no key but the case is unlocked so can still be used. Matching red inside with elasticated pouch. There has been a product spillage in the case at some point that has created a white stain to the lining but this is purely cosmetic and of course cannot be seen when the case is closed. We love this vintage vanity case/mini suitcase in stylish tan coloured faux leather. Opens up to reveal a fabulous retro orange lining with elasticated pouches and mirror. VINTAGE SUNGLASSES
Even in Blighty, you can't go on holiday without a good pair of sunglasses and there are some utterly amazing vintage sunglasses for all budgets, in stock right now at My Vintage...
Wow, these are an incredible vintage find! Super retro original vintage sunglasses from Jean Patou in chunky square shape. Smoky grey plastic frames and lightly tinted lenses. VINTAGE PICNIC BASKET
Whether you plan to eat in the car, in a park or in the garden of a luxury mansion; a vintage picnic hamper is the perfect retro injection for any al fresco dining. We normally do have a few of these amazing vintage picnic sets in stock, for all manner of family sizes. These are a couple of my personal favourites...
Fantastic collectable wicker picnic basket from Brexton, suitable for 4 people. Comprises a large strong wicker basket as well as 4 plates, 4 saucers, 4 serrated knives, 4 forks and 2 spoons, 2 sandwich/food boxes, 2 screw top plastic canisters and 2 plastic pots. Plates are marked ‘Offbeat’ by Barker Bros Ltd Royal Tudorware, permanent underglaze, detergent proof colour. Very good condition. Outer case measures approx 20” x 14" x 8”. A ream gem!
We love this beautiful 6 person picnic set in a blue hard shell case with hinge lock (keys attached). Made in England by the infamous and collectable Brexton. Contains 6 pretty floral design cups, 6 matching saucers, 4 Brexton marked teaspoons, 1 Brexton marked knife, 3 Brexton marked glass canisters with screw lids, a Thermos flask (degraded) and a plastic pot which contains 4 nesting beakers inside one another. Outer case measures approx 15.5” x 11.5" x 5" and all in very good vintage condition. This is such stunning and collectable piece of history and also very usable!
