1950s Vintage Floral Basket Powder Compact

A particularly pretty and generously sized 1950s compact, beautifully decorated with a hand-painted style motif of a wicker basket overflowing with colourful flowers against a polished gold-tone background with a scalloped border detail.

Slightly larger than the average compact at 3.5" x 3.5", this piece is both practical and highly decorative, offering extra space inside while still being elegant enough to carry.

Although unmarked, the design and construction are typical of mid-century English or continental compacts, and it retains its original sifter which makes it especially appealing to collectors. The mirror is clear and the case shows only light surface wear to the reverse, consistent with age, but overall remains in very good vintage condition.

This compact would make a striking display item for a dressing table, a thoughtful gift, or a unique accessory to use with modern pressed powder.

The labels on vintage clothing can vary massively depending on country of origin and date of manufacture. Clothing sizes have changed over the years and from decade to decade we see alternative types of sizing as well as variations on the way measurements equate to dress sizes.

We always recommend that you double-check the measurements of the vintage clothing item you are interested in, ideally by measuring an item of clothing you already own and that fits well, and comparing these measurements. There can be variations due to the desired fit, shape and fabric of an item but our size guidelines are normally very accurate and take the stress out of buying vintage online.
