1970s Vintage Black Velvet Ornate Embroidered Tie Belt One Size
This is pure drama in the best possible way. A striking vintage tie belt, most likely dating to the 1970s, featuring a thick black velvet central panel lavishly embroidered with gold-toned metal thread in an ornate floral and scroll design. The detailing is beautifully intricate, with raised embroidery giving it a rich, almost regal texture. Each floral medallion is centred with a deep garnet-coloured cabochon stone, adding warmth and depth against the dark velvet background. The central panel has a substantial feel, structured yet soft, and the embroidery has that unmistakable old-world craftsmanship that’s hard to find in modern pieces. At each end, black and gold twisted rope cords extend to allow for adjustable fastening, finished with shimmering gold metallic tassels that move beautifully when worn. This design simply ties to fasten, making it very versatile. It can comfortably fit approximately 26" (66cm) up to 44" (112cm), so it works across a wide size range — from a modern UK 8 through to approximately a UK 16/18 depending on how you choose to wear it (waist or hips). It would look incredible cinched over a flowing black maxi dress for full bohemian glamour, or layered over a simple blouse and tailored trousers to add a bold, statement finish. In generally very good vintage condition, with a few slight loose threads visible in places consistent with age, but nothing that detracts from its overall impact or wearability.

At My Vintage, we take time to carefully measure each item of vintage clothing so that you have the best chance of ensuring a good fit whenever you buy from us. We measure the clothing laid flat as the diagrams show below and for bust, chest, waist and hips we double the measurement. For example, if the waist measures 17" across when laid flat then this would equate to a 34" waist (17 x 2 = 34)
We use the measurements we collate to assign each item of vintage clothing with an approximate modern-day size. For example, a dress with a 34" bust, 28" waist and 34" hips would normally equate to a current UK size 10. The labels on vintage clothing can vary massively depending on country of origin and date of manufacture. Clothing sizes have changed over the years and from decade to decade we see alternative types of sizing as well as variations on the way measurements equate to dress sizes.
We always recommend that you double-check the measurements of the vintage clothing item you are interested in, ideally by measuring an item of clothing you already own and that fits well, and comparing these measurements. There can be variations due to the desired fit, shape and fabric of an item but our size guidelines are normally very accurate and take the stress out of buying vintage online.
