A wonderfully unusual 1970s vintage bracelet made from individually cut pieces of natural shell, each retaining its own unique colouring, markings and organic shape. The shells range through warm caramel, chocolate brown and creamy pearl tones, with beautiful flashes of green, blue, violet and pink mother-of-pearl iridescence appearing as they catch the light.
Each freeform piece has been drilled and individually joined with small gold-tone metal rings, creating a flexible articulated bracelet with a distinctly handcrafted, bohemian feel.
There is no clasp or opening by design, so the bracelet slips over the hand to wear; it measures approximately 8" around and is non-stretch, meaning it will best suit a smaller hand that can comfortably pass through the bracelet.
The deliberately irregular shell pieces feature natural variation in thickness, colour, surface texture and edges, including areas of pitting and roughness which form part of the character of the natural material rather than giving the piece a pristine, uniform finish.
In good vintage condition with expected age-related wear to the metal rings and natural imperfections throughout the shell.
