1980s Vintage Sténay Black & Gold Sequin Silk Top Size 10

A striking late 1980s vintage evening top by Sténay, beautifully crafted in black silk and lavishly hand embellished with shimmering gold sequins and intricate black bugle bead embroidery. Made in India, where many of the era's finest embellished garments were produced, this elegant occasion piece features an all-over abstract floral-inspired design that catches the light from every angle, while the softly structured silhouette is enhanced by light shoulder pads, a flattering V-neckline and beautifully scalloped sleeves and hem. The silk fabric feels lightweight yet substantial thanks to the extensive hand embellishment, allowing it to drape beautifully while retaining its sculptural shape. The original label is a size Small and, with a 34" bust and 24" length, it is best suited to a modern UK size 10, offering a gently tailored fit that sits neatly on the body. For example, a dress with a 34" bust, 28" waist and 34" hips would normally equate to a current UK size 10. The labels on vintage clothing can vary massively depending on country of origin and date of manufacture. Clothing sizes have changed over the years and from decade to decade we see alternative types of sizing as well as variations on the way measurements equate to dress sizes.

We always recommend that you double-check the measurements of the vintage clothing item you are interested in, ideally by measuring an item of clothing you already own and that fits well, and comparing these measurements.
