An exceptional example of mid-century British formal wear, this vintage black dinner suit dates from the 1950s. Expertly tailored in medium-heavyweight wool, the jacket is cut with strikingly structured, padded shoulders and finished with wide grosgrain lapels for a bold, formal silhouette. Detailing includes a single-button fastening, small chest pocket, two front pockets, and four-button cuffs. The matching trousers are cut with a medium-high rise, featuring side pockets, a zip-and-hook fastening with buttoned waistband, and an unusual small buttoned front pocket. The waistband shows signs of historical alteration at the back, now unpicked, and there is some wear to the lining fabric — typical for a garment of this age. A Lightning-branded zipper confirms its mid-century British origin. A classic and beautifully preserved piece of formalwear, perfect for collectors or for wearing to special black-tie occasions with true vintage authenticity.
