At My Vintage, we take time to carefully measure each item of vintage clothing so that you have the best chance of ensuring a good fit whenever you buy from us. We measure the clothing laid flat as the diagrams show below and for bust, chest, waist and hips we double the measurement. For example, if the waist measures 17" across when laid flat then this would equate to a 34" waist (17 x 2 = 34)

We use the measurements we collate to assign each item of vintage clothing with an approximate modern-day size. For example, a dress with a 34" bust, 28" waist and 34" hips would normally equate to a current UK size 10. The labels on vintage clothing can vary massively depending on country of origin and date of manufacture. Clothing sizes have changed over the years and from decade to decade we see alternative types of sizing as well as variations on the way measurements equate to dress sizes.

We always recommend that you double-check the measurements of the vintage clothing item you are interested in, ideally by measuring an item of clothing you already own and that fits well, and comparing these measurements. There can be variations due to the desired fit, shape and fabric of an item but our size guidelines are normally very accurate and take the stress out of buying vintage online.

When buying vintage online, it is important to have as much accurate information about the item(s) as possible. As well as multiple photographs and detailed descriptions we also provide information about each item's condition. To make this even easier to follow, we have created this simple Condition Guide that provides an easy reference as you shop with My Vintage...

Excellent - In pristine condition. Looks unworn and as new.

Very Good - Normal wear but condition is very good for age of item.

Good - There are minor flaws to be explained in the item description.

Fair - Will need more significant repair, damage will be explained in description.

There are so many great reasons to buy vintage clothing. Firstly the unique nature of each item means that you are always buying something super special and in most cases one-of-a-kind. Not to mention, of course, the huge benefits for the environment. Buying vintage clothing as opposed to always buying new, is such a brilliant and sustainable way to shop for fashion. The more we share, swap and recycle our clothing, the more we help to reduce our carbon footprint.

Vintage clothing is also so well made, with many of the fabrics being of incredible quality and the craftsmanship second to none. It really is so often true when they say 'they don't make them like they used to'.

From vintage dresses to vintage handbags, vintage jumpers to vintage trousers, vintage suits to vintage shoes and so much more - when you shop at My Vintage you are sure to find unique and stylish vintage fashion cherry picked by us and delivered to your door anywhere in the world.
